- We recommend servicing your caravan every 10,000 km or annually. (A new van should have an initial service after 1,000 km then as above).
- The most common reason tyres wear uneven is the wrong tyre pressure. Caravans should be fitted with light truck tyres, which need a pressure of around 50 psi, depending on the size & weight of the van. (If you continue to have tyre problems, you need to check your axle and bearings and wheel alignment with independent suspension).
- The 12 volt system in a caravan is normally powered from a live wire (hot wire) in your cars trailer plug. When tow bars are fitted to cars, they usually wire up the trailer lights only, not electric brakes or the live wire. (At ADP we include the live wire with any “Electric Brake controller” fit up).
- Your Brake Controller needs to be adjusted so that the caravan is doing its own stopping, you should not feel the van pushing you (increase the gain) & the van shouldn’t be braking for your car (decrease the gain). If your controller has a pendulum, this needs to be correctly adjusted to the manufacturers instructions. (Otherwise the controller won’t correctly sense the cars inertia).
- 3 way fridges tend to become very inefficient on hot days. It is because a lot of heat builds up behind the fridge which can’t escape. You can improve the situation by fitting fans behind the fridge or better venting. (Keeping the sun off the fridge side of the van also helps, this can be achieved by a simple awning or tarp set up). On 12 volt, the fridge is at its least efficient, this can be improved by running heavier wiring back to your battery. |
